Honolulu City Council considering living wage resolution

The current Honolulu City Council Chair, Ernie Martin, has introduced a resolution to the Honolulu City Council that would urge the state legislature to consider raising the minimum wage to a living wage.

The resolution finds that Hawaiʻi’s current minimum wage is well below what a full-time worker needs to survive, and despite Honolulu claiming the nation’s lowest unemployment rate, the state failed to pass a minimum wage increase in 2018.

This resolution will be heard on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Honolulu Hale. The text of the resolution, no. 18-118, can be found here. Living wage supporters can find the agenda and can submit testimony online here.
